Over looking the Derwent River on the Eastern Shore, this historical cemetery provides river views in a peaceful rural setting.
The St Margaret’s Church - East Risdon Cemetery located on Church Point Road which is off Saundersons Road came about from a land grant from Eleanor Cleburne to the Congregation Church in the 1870s. The first burial was in January of 1874. The Cemetery is only 0.8 hectares with approximately 500 grave sites.
The Cemetery was administered by the Congregation Church until the 1970s when it was amalgamated into the Anglican Church and administrated from the Lindisfarne parish.
A designated volunteer undertook the day-to-day running of the Cemetery until late 2004, when the Southern Regional Cemetery Trust was contacted and undertook to maintain and administer the cemetery.
On the 1st July 2009 the cemetery was sold to Millingtons Funeral Directors who now exclusively own and manage the cemetery from their Cornelian Bay Cemetery office.
Significant restoration of the grounds and roads has recently occurred including construction and design of a memorial garden bed site which surrounds the existing niche wall, allowing further choices to place and memorialize your loved ones.
